Surviving Stomach Cancer By Elinca West I am a survivor of gastric cancer. I was diagnosed 12 years ago and went through all the necessary treatment and therapies, including removal of my stomach. It wasn’t easy. Especially since I was still very young and had a small child to care for. Perhaps this has saved me because the thought of having to leave my baby made me fight. What really bothers me to this day is the fact that the hereditary factor is still not taken into account to the extent it should be. Fact is, if people have a family history of gastric cancer, they may have a higher risk and they need to be screened on a regular basis and helicobacter pylory needs to be eradicated, if detected. Listen to your body and don’t ignore any signals. And, yes, the body does send signals.
