Suicide

I just received word that my former boss has died. He committed suicide.
I am shocked and sad. He was a very kind person, working around the clock, and very caring towards his employees. A few years ago he was diagnosed with some kind of serious illness. We never really knew what he was suffering from but it was obvious that he was increasingly unwell and struggling. A year ago he shut down the company. We thought that perhaps this was the right move for him to recover and re-structure his life.
However, the truth is, he had no relatives, no close relationship and apparently he couldn’t bear it any longer, he was preparing to go for good. So sad, to imagine him being on his own and reaching the decision to end his own life. So sad to envision what must have gone through his mind as he said good-bye to the world.
I hope that he was at peace with himself and the world. He didn’t leave a note.
We will never know.

Hi, Elinca, Having just gone through a day (my 64th birthday) when suicide became something that I could see as a reasonable exit from this life, all I can say is the he probably simply came to a situation where the balance of the scales dictated his action. For many people I can now see that suicide is only the next logical step to take.
